It’s great to see that a longtime resident of Hopkinton – John Boatwright – has stepped up to the plate to take over as interim town administrator. Though he will take the helm for only about 60 days until a permanent administrator is hired, Boatwright should be commended highly for caring enough about his community and doing what he can to help out.

Boatwright has also served the town in many capacities, including chairman of the School Board, a member of the Zoning Board and chairman of the Information Technology Committee. These positions take a lot of volunteer time and hard work, and also need people who have a wide array of experience setting budgets, an ability to learn and enforce zoning rules and a keen understanding of today’s technology. Most importantly, these positions need people like Boatwright who make Hopkinton and Contoocook great communities to live in.

Hopkinton and the Local Government Center have been working for a year to hire a permanent town administrator and in support of Hopkinton Board of Selectmen Chairman Scott Flood’s sentiments, we hope the new hire will do right by the town and remain on the job for many years to come.
