A rewarding pursuit
“I’ve never done anything this rewarding.” That’s what Laura Pace said about the Challenger Little League, which she helped coordinate this year. This league gives children with disabilities the chance to play an organized sport, but it is more than just a recreational event. This league teaches skills not only in the sport but in life itself – to the volunteers as well as the kids. And isn’t that the best part of it all? Yes, it’s work to get to games and practices and keep kids focused on the task at hand, with or without disabilities. Not only do the kids learn and have fun, looking forward eagerly to each game, but the volunteers also gain an appreciation for every step learned by those kids. Coach Chris Legacy told of a teenager who just loved being there because of how good it made him feel. We applaud everyone involved in the Challenger League, from the kids and their parents to the organizers and volunteers of all ages. We feel rewarded too, just knowing there are so many good people out there. - Editorials published by Neighborhood News Inc. are written by an editorial board.
